Jerry Rice, Steve Young chosen as Pro Bowl Games coaches

Mon Dec 15 10:23pm ET
Field Level Media

Pro Football Hall of Famers and former teammates Steve Young and Jerry Rice will oppose each other on the sideline as the head coaches for the 2026 Pro Bowl Games.

Young will coach the AFC, while Rice will coach the NFC, the NFL announced on Monday. The two were teammates on the San Francisco 49ers from 1987-99.

The flag football spectacle will be held the week of the Super Bowl for the first time in the event's history. Rice and Young will lead their squads into San Francisco's Moscone Center South Building on Tuesday, Feb. 3, while the Super Bowl will take place Feb. 8 at Levi's Stadium.

Rice was inducted into the Hall of Fame in 2010. He is widely recognized as the best wideout of all time, as he holds the regular-season records for receptions (1,549), receiving yards (22,895), touchdown receptions (197), scrimmage yards (23,540) and total TDs (208).

The three-time Super Bowl champion also holds playoff marks with 2,245 receiving yards and 22 touchdown receptions, among other records.

Young was enshrined in the Hall of Fame in 2005. The seven-time Pro Bowl quarterback led the league in passer rating six times, earned three first-team All-Pro honors, won two MVPs and captured three Super Bowl rings.

The NFL is working to promote flag football ahead of the sport's Olympic debut in the 2028 Games at Los Angeles.

Waiver Wire Pickups: Week 16

Player Notes
Romeo Doubs Dec 16 9:20am ET
Romeo Doubs

Green Bay Packers wide receiver Romeo Doubs could get more work in the coming weeks, depending on the status of Christian Watson (chest). Watson left the team's loss to the Broncos after landing hard on his left shoulder while battling cornerback Patrick Surtain II for a jump ball. He was taken by ambulance to a local hospital for further examination, but he was able to fly home with the team and could avoid missing time. Doubs finished with only two catches for 36 receiving yards on Sunday, but he filled in more effectively earlier this season when Watson was sidelined. If you need receiver depth, adding Doubs makes sense if Watson misses any time. In Week 16, the Packers face the Bears in a very important divisional matchup, so watch the Packers' practice report for Watson's status this week.

Jonnu Smith Dec 16 2:23am ET
Jonnu Smith

Pittsburgh Steelers TE Jonnu Smith had two receptions for 12 yards versus the Miami Dolphins in Week 16. Smith also had a 14-yard touchdown on his lone rushing attempt.

Fantasy Spin: For Smith, it was his first TD since Oct. 16. The veteran still hasn't reached the 30-yard mark in a game this year, rendering him useless in all leagues despite the creative touchdown run.

From TheHuddle

Marquez Valdes-Scantling Dec 16 2:03am ET
Marquez Valdes-Scantling

Pittsburgh Steelers WR Marquez Valdes-Scantling had a 19-yard touchdown reception on his lone target of the team's Week 15 win over the Miami Dolphins.

Adam Thielen Dec 16 1:53am ET
Adam Thielen

Pittsburgh Steelers WR Adam Thielen caught his only targeted pass for seven yards versus the Miami Dolphins in Week 15.

Fantasy Spin: Thielen seemed to be on the field a lot on Monday, though much of it was as a blocker. His veteran savvy feels like a good match for Aaron Rodgers, but until he actually catches some passes there's no reason to use a roster spot on him.

From TheHuddle

Kenneth Gainwell Dec 16 1:10am ET
Kenneth Gainwell

Pittsburgh Steelers running back Kenneth Gainwell continues to be a PPR machine, racking up seven receptions for 46 yards while adding 13 carries for 80 yards on the ground in the Monday night win over the Miami Dolphins. Gainwell led the team in catches, with four other Steelers tied for second with three, and outgained Jaylen Warren by 47 yards on the ground on one more carry. The 26-year-old remains a vital piece of the Steelers offense and a player that quarterback Aaron Rodgers relies on for easy dump-off passes to pick up yards after the catch. Gainwell has recorded at least six receptions in four of the past five games and has emerged as a weekly option in PPR leagues. He'll project favorably again as an RB2/flex option next week against the Detroit Lions.

Devon Achane Dec 16 1:10am ET
Devon Achane

Miami Dolphins running back De'Von Achane recorded 12 carries for 60 yards to go with six receptions (six targets) for 67 yards as a receiver in Monday night's loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers. Achane ran efficiently, marking his fifth straight game with at least five yards per carry. The star running back also got involved as a receiver again after recording just one catch over the past two games, leading Miami in receiving yards and notching his sixth game with at least six receptions this season. Despite the Dolphins struggling to move the ball all night in the cold weather in Pittsburgh, Achane was still able to manage 127 total yards and deliver another strong performance for fantasy managers. The 24-year-old profiles as one of the best options in all of fantasy for next week's matchup against the porous Cincinnati Bengals defense.

Aaron Rodgers Dec 16 1:03am ET
Aaron Rodgers

Pittsburgh Steelers QB Aaron Rodgers completed 23 of 27 passes for 224 yards, two touchdowns, and no interceptions against the Miami Dolphins in Week 15.

Fantasy Spin: In two games since the disaster against Buffalo, Rodgers has thrown for 508 yards with four total touchdowns and no interceptions. A visit to face his old foe, the Lions, is up next. Only two teams have given up more passing TDs than Detroit, which has endured serious injury issues in their secondary, and they rank bottom 10 in yards allowed as well. It's enough to give fantasy owners something to think about in Week 16 with Rodgers, normally a QB2, staring down a plus matchup.

Tua Tagovailoa Dec 16 12:50am ET
Tua Tagovailoa

Miami Dolphins quarterback Tua Tagovailoa completed 22 of 28 passes for 253 yards, two touchdowns, and one interception in Monday night's 28-15 loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers. The final line for Tagovailoa is not reflective of his overall performance, as Miami's offense struggled to move the ball all night. The 27-year-old signal-caller threw an ugly first-quarter interception and led the Dolphins to just 109 yards of offense on 21 plays in the first half. Miami went backwards in the third quarter, totaling minus-20 yards on their two drives before making up for lost time in the fourth quarter in garbage time, when Tagovailoa found tight end Darren Waller for two touchdowns. The Alabama product ended up with his most passing yards in a game since Week 9, but it was an empty performance. Tagovailoa will look to get back on track next week in a favorable matchup against the Cincinnati Bengals.

Aaron Rodgers Dec 16 12:40am ET
Aaron Rodgers

Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Aaron Rodgers completed 23 of 27 passes for 224 yards and two touchdowns in Monday night's 28-15 win over the Miami Dolphins. The 42-year-old signal-caller completed 85.2% of his passes, the second-highest in a game of his storied career. Rodgers and the Steelers' offense got off to a slow start with punts on their first three drives, but then they found the end zone on four consecutive drives en route to a dominant win. The veteran peppered running back Kenneth Gainwell with seven underneath targets to pick up easy yardage, then threw touchdown passes on back-to-back drives to former Green Bay Packers teammate Marquez Valdes-Scantling on the opening drive of the second half and D.K. Metcalf on the ensuing possession. Rodgers has put together two of his best games of the season in the past two weeks and will look to stay hot next week against the Detroit Lions on the road. It won't be an easy matchup, but Rodgers should be forced to throw plenty in a game with shootout potential.

Darren Waller Dec 16 12:33am ET
Darren Waller

Miami Dolphins TE Darren Waller had seven receptions, 66 yards, and a pair of touchdowns in a Week 15 loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers. He was targeted a game-high eight times.

Fantasy Spin: Largely a non-factor since returning from a pec injury in Week 13, Waller came to life in garbage time, accounting for both of Miami's touchdowns on Monday night. He's a talented pass catcher, and with no Tyreek Hill (knee), it seems logical he would play a larger role. Miami wants to run the ball, however, which marginalizes the team's receiving options most weeks. On paper, Waller has meaningful upside against Cincinnati's porous defense this Sunday, but it'd be paired with a fair amount of risk.

From TheHuddle

Emari Demercado Dec 16 12:30am ET
Emari Demercado

Arizona Cardinals running back Emari Demercado had one carry for a yard in Sunday's 40-20 loss to the Houston Texans in Week 15. Demercado also had two catches for zero yards on three targets. The 26-year-old had a quiet performance in his first game back after missing three games due to an ankle injury. Bam Knight (ankle) was carted off the field early on Sunday and was ruled out for the remainder of the game. Michael Carter then slid into the RB1 role and dominated carries the rest of the game. With the Cardinals unsure of Knight's status for Week 16, Demercado could be in for a bigger workload against the Atlanta Falcons. If Knight can't play next week against the Atlanta Falcons, Carter and Demercado would split work in the backfield. It is worth noting that Demercado had out-snapped Carter in two consecutive games before suffering his own ankle injury. Heading into Week 16, Demercado is worth monitoring on waiver wires ahead of his matchup against the Falcons.

Darren Waller Dec 16 12:20am ET
Darren Waller

Miami Dolphins tight end Darren Waller recorded seven receptions for 66 yards and two touchdowns in Monday night's loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers. Waller scored the only touchdowns of the night for the Dolphins and notched his second two-touchdown game of the season, with the other coming back in Week 4 against the Jets. Both touchdowns came in garbage time in the fourth quarter as Miami's offense struggled to generate anything for most of the game. The 33-year-old tight end was quiet in the last two games after returning from a pectoral injury, totaling three catches for 60 yards on six targets, but he remains a dangerous threat in the red zone. Waller profiles as an interesting streamer in Week 16 against the Cincinnati Bengals, who have been the worst defense in the league against tight ends.

From RotoBaller

Michael Carter Dec 16 12:10am ET
Michael Carter

Arizona Cardinals running back Michael Carter had 14 carries for 56 yards in Sunday's 40-20 loss to the Houston Texans in Week 15. Carter also had four catches for 38 yards on four targets. The 26-year-old was the next man up in the Cardinals' backfield after Bam Knight (ankle) was carted off the field early in the game. Carter was able to step into the Cardinals' RB1 role and display his versatile skill set in the run and pass games. With the Cardinals unsure of Knight's status for Week 16, Carter's fantasy stock is rising and should be on fantasy managers' radars. If Knight can't play next week against the Atlanta Falcons, Carter and Emari Demercado would split work in the backfield. Carter could be in for a bigger role in the Cardinals' offense and is worth picking up off the waiver wire going into Week 16.

Luke Musgrave Dec 15 11:50pm ET
Luke Musgrave

Green Bay Packers tight end Luke Musgrave hadn't done much with his increased opportunities since Tucker Kraft suffered a season-ending knee injury. However, he had season-highs in catches (four), targets (six), and receiving yards (52) in the 34-26 loss to the hosting Denver Broncos on Sunday. The 25-year-old former second-rounder has seen 10 targets in the last two weeks, catching six of them for 74 yards. Musgrave has yet to find the end zone in 2025, but the good news is that he has little competition for targets at his position, and he could see more work going into a crucial Week 16 divisional game against the Chicago Bears this Sunday if receiver Christian Watson (chest) is unable to play. Musgrave caught two of his four targets for 22 yards in the Week 14 win over the Bears at Lambeau Field. Coming off a season-best performance in Denver, Musgrave is one to watch as a touchdown-dependent TE2 streamer if Watson is inactive in Week 16.

From RotoBaller

Michael Wilson Dec 15 11:40pm ET
Michael Wilson

Arizona Cardinals wide receiver Michael Wilson caught five of his 11 targets for 54 yards and one touchdown during Sunday's Week 15 loss against the Houston Texans. Wilson continues to step up in the Cardinals' offense and produce good numbers with Marvin Harrison Jr. (heel) sidelined. In four games without Harrison on the field, Wilson has seen double-digit targets in each game and has hauled in at least 10 catches in three of those games. Over the last five weeks, Wilson has seen the most targets in the NFL and has averaged 13.4 targets per game. As long as Harrison is sidelined, Wilson should be deployed as a strong WR1 option in fantasy football. Even when Harrison returns, Wilson is still a high-end WR3/flex with WR2 upside. Arizona will face a more favorable matchup in Week 16 against the Atlanta Falcons.

From RotoBaller

Theo Johnson Dec 15 11:10pm ET
Theo Johnson

Across 14 games this season, New York Giants tight end Theo Johnson has recorded 45 receptions for 528 yards and five touchdowns on 72 targets. While the 24-year-old has yet to demonstrate explosive upside, he's been highly consistent. Johnson has recorded exactly three catches in seven of his last eight games and double-digit PPR fantasy points in six out of his last eleven contests. Johnson has also dominated tight end snaps in New York this season, playing 80% or more of the team's offensive snaps in 12 out of 14 weeks. The Giants will host the Minnesota Vikings in Week 16 before a more favorable matchup in Week 17 in Las Vegas against the Raiders. In fantasy leagues with 12 or more teams, Johnson could be worth targeting as a streaming option off the waiver wire at the tight end position.

Patrick Mahomes Dec 15 11:03pm ET
Patrick Mahomes

Kansas City Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes (knee) successfully underwent surgery in Dallas on Monday, Dec. 15 to repair the tear in his left anterior cruciate ligament. He is expected to begin the rehab process immediately.

Fantasy Spin: According to most reports, the general rehab time for a torn ACL is nine months, which would put the return for Mahomes perilously close to the regular-season opener. It's going to be touch-and-go all summer with Mahomes news on how his rehab is going, who might start if he isn't ready for the season opener, etc. Gardner Minshew II will start the rest of the regular season under center in Kansas City with Mahomes on the shelf.

Seattle Seahawks OT Charles Cross (hamstring) did not practice Monday, Dec. 15 in a walkthrough. LB Demarcus Lawrence (quadriceps) and WR Cody White (abdomen) were listed as limited participants, while LB Derick Hall (finger), OT Abraham Lucas (neck), DE Michael Morris (knee), S Ty Okada (shoulder), DT Jarran Reed (wrist, thumb), DE Leonard Williams (wrist) and WR Dareke Young (quadriceps) were each listed as full participants.

Los Angeles Rams WR Davante Adams (knee, hamstring), DE Braden Fiske (ankle) and S Jaylen McCollough (illness) did not practice Monday, Dec. 15, while OL Alaric Jackson (ankle), TE Nick Vannett (oblique) and WR Jordan Whittington (back) were listed as limited participants.

From TheHuddle

Davante Adams Dec 15 10:50pm ET
Davante Adams

Los Angeles Rams wide receiver Davante Adams (knee, hamstring) was listed on Monday's practice report as a non-participant, per John Boyle of Seahawks.com. Adams was forced to exit early from the Rams' Week 15 win over the Detroit Lions due to a hamstring injury. Los Angeles did not actually hold a practice on Monday, so Monday's report is an estimation of his status leading into the team's Week 16 matchup against the Seattle Seahawks on Thursday night. Across 14 games this season, Adams has hauled in 60 receptions for 789 yards and 14 touchdowns on 114 targets. If he's unable to play in Week 16, Rams wideouts Konata Mumpfield and Tutu Atwell could see increased roles. Los Angeles tight end Colby Parkinson, who caught two touchdowns against Detroit, could also continue to see more targets.
