Jaguars 2025 draft needs, picks, best fits, history

Wed Apr 16 4:19pm ET
Field Level Media

Another year, another top five draft pick for the Jacksonville Jaguars.

Owner Shad Khan reversed his initial decision to retain general manager Trent Baalke when he fired head coach Doug Pederson after a 4-13 season in 2024. But when head coach candidate Liam Coen pulled out of the running for the job, Khan ejected Baalke, hired 34-year-old James Gladstone and landed Coen, 39, to replace Pederson.

With quarterback Trevor Lawrence recovering from left shoulder surgery and some mystery about the overall direction of the team's schemes, Gladstone rides into his first draft in the big chair with plentiful options and 10 total picks.

The show begins at No. 5. History indicates a top talent will be available, but which direction will Gladstone steer the Jaguars?

As the draft approaches, the rumor mill has consistently connected the team to a pass rusher or running back Ashton Jeanty.

Here's a closer look at the hand Gladstone holds.

--Team needs

Cornerback: Travis Hunter would be the ideal steal and if Gladstone was paying attention during his nine years with the Rams (spoiler alert: he was), swinging for the fences won't be a problem. With 10 selections there's room to gamble and the Jaguars offer Hunter a CB1 role with a chance to be heavily incorporated on offense. If they aren't willing to trade with Cleveland or the New York Giants to get Hunter, a move down for Will Johnson (Michigan) or targeting a mid-round developmental type could work, too.

Running back: It's not that the position is a need so much as it's likely Gladstone will be sitting on the clock with the option to select Boise State's Ashton Jeanty. Mentor Les Snead of the Rams had a similar decision in 2015, one year before Gladstone joined the franchise, when he opted to drafted Georgia running back Todd Gurley. More recently in Rams' lore and as part of Gladstone's tenure, the Rams found Pro Bowl RB Kyren Williams with the 164th overall pick in 2022.

Defensive line: Michigan's Mason Graham appears to be an ideal fit for the Jaguars based on need and the team's stated approach to the draft class.

Not to dwell on his nine-year run with the Rams, but has anyone benefited more from a strong interior defensive line than Los Angeles under Snead? They were questioned for the "risk" of drafting a smaller three-technique out of Pitt in 2014, and Aaron Donald, the No. 13 overall pick that year, is a few years shy of being fitted for a gold jacket. Last year, the Rams snagged Braden Fiske (second round) after already addressing their pass rush with Jared Verse in the first round.

Trevor Etienne Apr 16 3:20pm CT
Trevor Etienne

Former Florida and Georgia running back Trevor Etienne is visiting with the New England Patriots on Wednesday, according to NFL insider Ian Rapoport. The 20-year-old rushed for a career-low 609 yards and averaged 5.0 yards per carry in his lone season with the Bulldogs, but dealt with injuries for most of the 2024 season. However, his overall productive profile is impressive, with 371 carries for 2,081 yards and 23 rushing touchdowns in 34 career games. He added 62 receptions for 432 yards and one score through the air. The brother of Travis Etienne is expected to be a Day 3 pick in the 2025 NFL Draft, and the Patriots could be interested in adding a rookie to their running back room to compete with Antonio Gibson and Rhamondre Stevenson.

Lamar Jackson Apr 16 3:00pm CT
Lamar Jackson

According to ESPN Ravens reporter Jamison Hensley, the Baltimore Ravens have "invested countless hours" into scouting kickers ahead of the 2025 NFL Draft. There is uncertainty surrounding All-Pro kicker Justin Tucker, given a slew of sexual-misconduct accusations this offseason, so Baltimore is doing their homework at the position. Ravens general manager Eric DeCosta said he's open to picking a kicker at some point in next week's draft, but it is not a certainty. "It is worth [using a draft pick on a kicker] if you have the right kicker," DeCosta said. "It just depends on the board, it depends on the player, it depends on who's there and it depends on how your coaches see him. And also it should be said that some of the greatest kickers of all time weren't drafted, right? So there's no blueprint for finding a kicker." While it remains to be seen who will kick for Baltimore in 2025, any kicker attached to the dynamic offense led by quarterback Lamar Jackson should have fantasy football value and upside.

Colston Loveland Apr 16 3:00pm CT
Colston Loveland

Former University of Michigan tight end Colston Loveland has taken a backseat to former Penn State tight end prospect Tyler Warren during offseason NFL Draft buzz, but the former College Football Playoff National Champion is expected to be a first-round pick, and NFL insider Jordan Schultz reports he could go in the 10-22 overall range. "A f---ing awesome football player man," an NFL college scouting director told Schultz. "Does it all. Day 1 mismatch, Day 1 star." Over his final two collegiate seasons, Loveland caught 101 passes for 1,231 yards and nine touchdowns despite playing in a run-heavy offense. While most tight ends take time to develop in the NFL, we've seen Sam LaPorta and Brock Bowers deliver TE1 campaigns as rookies. If Loveland lands in the right offense, he could have immediate fantasy football upside.

Isaiah Bond Apr 16 2:50pm CT
Isaiah Bond

Former Texas wide receiver and 2025 NFL Draft prospect Isaiah Bond, who surrendered on a sexual assault warrant last week before posting bond and being released, is filing a complaint against his accuser. The 21-year-old's agent, Damien Butler, released a statement on Wednesday calling the allegations false. "Earlier this evening, Isaiah's attorneys at Nesenhoff & Miltenberg, LLP filed the attached complaint in the United States District Court for the Northern District of Texas in response to the false allegation of sexual assault and defamatory statements made against him. Unlike the false narrative that has been amplified, the truth, once revealed in its entirety, will show that he was targeted by a woman eight years his senior, relentlessly pursued, enticed by explicit photos & videos and ultimately setup for financial gain." Needless to say, this is a situation worth monitoring with just eight days to go before the 2025 NFL Draft kicks off. Bond caught 54 passes for 540 yards and three touchdowns in his lone season at Texas after transferring from Alabama.

Shedeur Sanders Apr 16 2:40pm CT
Shedeur Sanders

The New York Giants are holding private workouts for top quarterback prospects Shedeur Sanders, Jalen Milroe, and Tyler Shough, which suggests the team is interested in adding a late-Round 1 or early-Round 2 rookie signal-caller in the 2025 NFL Draft. However, general manager Joe Schoen says the Giants "don't think it's mandatory" to take a quarterback after the additions of veterans Russell Wilson and Jameis Winston. The organization is clearly doing late-process homework on the QBs who could slip into the back half of Round 1 or later, so their plans after the No. 3 overall pick remain a mystery. Wilson and Winston could provide better quarterback play than New York has seen since Eli Manning, but neither is a long-term solution for a head coach and general manager running out of time to rack up wins.

Logan Woodside Apr 16 2:40pm CT
Logan Woodside

The Cincinnati Bengals have signed veteran backup quarterback Logan Woodside to a one-year deal, according to NFL.com. The 30-year-old was signed by the Bengals last offseason and spent most of the 2024 campaign on the practice squad. Woodside, a former seventh-round pick by the Bengals out of Toledo, has completed four of his seven career passing attempts for 34 yards and one interception in 12 games with the Tennessee Titans and Atlanta Falcons. At best, he'll likely stick around on the practice squad once again in 2025, but he could face an uphill battle to make the roster in any form.

Montez Sweat Apr 16 12:40pm CT
Montez Sweat

Texas A&M defensive tackle Shemar Stewart visited with the Chicago Bears on Monday, according to NFL Network's Tom Pelissero. The Bears definitely need help with their pass rush despite adding Dayo Odeyingbo in free agency to pair with Montez Sweat. The Bears hold the 10th overall pick in the first round of next week's NFL draft, but Stewart could be in play later in the round if they trade back. The 21-year-old's physical attributes jump off the page, but his production with the Aggies didn't exactly match up, as Stewart had only 31 tackles (six for loss), 1.5 sacks, a forced fumble and two pass breakups in 12 games last year at Texas A&M. He wasn't a full-time starter until last year, but he has been rising up draft boards since a dominating performance at the Senior Bowl. Among others, he's also visited with the Pittsburgh Steelers and New England Patriots.

Kyle McCord Apr 16 12:30pm CT
Kyle McCord

Several NFL teams told FOX Sports' Jordan Schultz that Syracuse quarterback Kyle McCord is one of the more undervalued players in the entire 2025 NFL draft. McCord visited with the Pittsburgh Steelers on Monday and with the New York Giants on Tuesday, according to sources. The 22-year-old led the nation in passing in 2024 and has acquitted himself well throughout the draft process with good interviews and impressive on-the-board work. McCord has prototypical NFL size, a winning pedigree and capacity to read coverage. He's currently being considered a sleeper in what is a weak draft class at the quarterback position in 2025. Both the Steelers and Giants are two of the most QB-needy teams in terms of long-term investments, so it wouldn't be a surprise to see either of them go after McCord on Day 2 or 3 of this year's draft.

Tyler Shough Apr 16 12:20pm CT
Tyler Shough

The Athletic's Dianna Russini says that the quarterback she's heard being discussed in NFL circles more than anyone else lately is University of Louisville QB Tyler Shough. Because of his rising draft stock and the fact that there are plenty of teams desperate for a franchise signal-caller, there is a chance that the 25-year-old QB is taken in the first round next Thursday night. Russini said an NFL head coach told her that he believes Shough is the best quarterback prospect in this year's draft class, including Miami's Cam Ward. Shough is old for a rookie QB, but his experience (seven years in college) certainly could give him the leg up in terms of being pro-ready the fastest in a QB draft class that is considered pretty weak. In his final season at Louisville, Shough threw for 3,200 yards, 23 touchdowns and six interceptions. Don't be surprised if a team trades back into the back half of the first round to select him next week.

Travis Hunter Apr 16 12:10pm CT
Travis Hunter

The New York Giants hold the third overall pick in next week's NFL draft, and University of Colorado wide receiver/defensive back Travis Hunter would seem to be in serious consideration at that spot if he's still available, according to ESPN New York's Jordan Raanan. "I would not be afraid to play him on both sides. Physically, I wouldn't doubt the kid," general manager Joe Schoen said. Hunter said recently he wouldn't play football if an NFL team denied him the chance to play on both sides of the ball. The 21-year-old Heisman Trophy winner has the physical ability to be a generational talent in the NFL as a two-way player, but it's more likely that he'll become a full-time player as a defender than as a piece on offense. The Tennessee Titans are widely expected to take Miami quarterback at No. 1 overall, with the Cleveland Browns leaning toward taking Hunter at No. 2. Because he'll be a two-way player, it's hard to imagine Hunter being a huge fantasy factor in his rookie season in 2025.

TreVeyon Henderson Apr 16 12:10pm CT
TreVeyon Henderson

The Denver Broncos are visiting with Ohio State running back TreVeyon Henderson on Wednesday, according to 9 News' Mike Klis. Many mock drafters think that Henderson would be an ideal fit for head coach Sean Payton's offensive system as both a rushing and receiving threat out of the backfield. Henderson had two 1,000-plus rushing yard and 27-catch seasons with the Buckeyes, and the Broncos are certainly looking to bolster what was a below-average rushing attack last year, especially after Javonte Williams departed in free agency. On Tuesday, Henderson visited with the Pittsburgh Steelers, who pick one slot after the Broncos in next week's NFL draft at No. 21. Henderson excels in pass protection as well, which is something most NFL teams put a ton of value in, especially for young backs. If Denver takes the 22-year-old in the first round, he'd likely lead the backfield in touches in 2025.

John FitzPatrick Apr 15 6:40pm CT
John FitzPatrick

Free agent tight end John FitzPatrick has re-signed with the Green Bay Packers on an undisclosed contract, according to the team. The former Georgia Bulldog will serve his second stint with the squad after kicking off his career with the Atlanta Falcons for two seasons. FitzPatrick has appeared in 18 games over the prior two seasons but has only caught two passes for 14 yards on two targets. He has yet to garner a start and logged just 91 snaps across both campaigns on offense. However, he also played a good chunk of special teams snaps. The 25-year-old is unlikely to make an impact on the field this year, with fellow tight ends Luke Musgrave and Tucker Kraft dominating playing time. FitzPatrick will provide Green Bay with more depth in 2025.

Julian Okwara Apr 15 6:20pm CT
Julian Okwara

The Cleveland Browns have signed an undisclosed contract with free-agent linebacker Julian Okwara. Okwara was selected by the Detroit Lions in the third round of the 2020 NFL Draft, and he spent his first four seasons with the organization. In 2024, the 27-year-old appeared in 13 games for the Arizona Cardinals (one start) as an outside linebacker, with some time spent on special teams as well. Over five seasons, the Notre Dame product has racked up 72 tackles (45 solo) with 15 tackles for loss, 10 sacks, and one interception. He's currently listed second (unofficially) on the team's depth chart behind teammate Mohamoud Diabate and should give Cleveland valuable snaps as a depth piece in 2025.

Jaire Alexander Apr 15 2:20pm CT
Jaire Alexander

The Green Bay Packers have received trade interest for veteran cornerback Jaire Alexander, but no deal is imminent with just over a week to go before the 2025 NFL Draft. The team is committed to finding a deal for Alexander rather than cutting him, but attempts to shop the Pro Bowler have been unsuccessful thus far. A deal could take place following the draft if a team does not land one of the cornerbacks on their board. Alexander, a former first-round pick out of Louisville in the 2018 NFL Draft, has tallied 287 tackles (240 solo), 1.5 sacks, three forced fumbles, 12 interceptions, and 70 pass deflections in 78 games. He is a two-time All-Pro selection but injuries have caused him to miss 20 regular-season games over the last two years, and his best football is likely behind him.

Mark Andrews Apr 15 2:10pm CT
Mark Andrews

Baltimore Ravens tight end Mark Andrews is one of the best players in franchise history, collecting 436 receptions for 5,530 yards and 51 touchdowns in 104 games across seven NFL seasons. However, the three-time Pro Bowler's status with the team for 2025 has been a topic of discussion this offseason, and general manager Eric DeCosta declined to definitively say he would be on the team next season. "I never know what's going to happen, but I can tell you this, Mark Andrews is a warrior," DeCosta said. He's a great player and we're in the business of keeping as many great players as we can." Andrews is entering his age-29 season and posted his lowest yardage total last year (minimum 11 games) since his 2018 rookie campaign. Whether he is potentially traded or released, uncertainty remains for the veteran, who is usually a TE1 in fantasy football.

Jalen Milroe Apr 15 1:50pm CT
Jalen Milroe

The New York Giants are doing extra homework on 2025 NFL Draft quarterback prospects just a week before the draft begins. It was previously announced that the organization would hold a private workout for Colorado quarterback Shedeur Sanders, but they are also doing the same with Alabama's Jalen Milroe and Louisville's Tyler Shough. While New York holds the No. 3 overall pick, they are reportedly unlikely to select a quarterback in that spot. Instead, the G-Men could be looking to trade back into the first round or pick a signal-caller with their second-round selection (No. 34 overall). The team signed veteran quarterbacks Russell Wilson and Jameis Winston this offseason, but the late workouts with top quarterback prospects suggest they are interested in adding a rookie to the QB room earlier than on Day 3.

Jaxson Dart Apr 15 1:40pm CT
Jaxson Dart

According to Carolina Panthers general manager Dan Morgan, the team is "open to trading back" from the No. 8 overall pick in the first round of the 2025 NFL Draft. "I think we're definitely open to trading back and acquiring more picks," Morgan said. "I think we're gonna be open for all possibilities. Let's put it that way." The Panthers have nine picks in next week's draft and are looking to build depth on both sides of the ball. The team is expected to have a defense-heavy draft after ranking last in total yards per game allowed a season ago. If a team wants to make a move for Ole Miss quarterback Jaxson Dart or Colorado quarterback Shedeur Sanders in Round 1, Carolina could be a team interested in doing a deal.

Omarion Hampton Apr 15 1:00pm CT
Omarion Hampton

North Carolina running back Omarion Hampton visited with the Chicago Bears on Monday, according to FOX Sports' Jordan Schultz. Hampton's immense skill set has endeared him to NFL general managers in the pre-draft process, and there's a growing belief that he could come off the board in the first round of next week's draft. It's a deep draft at the RB position this year, which means we could see multiple prospects come off the board in the first round. The Bears have the 10th overall pick in the first round, which would probably be a bit of a reach for Hampton, but they have two second-round picks, making it possible they'd consider trading back into the first round to select the former Tar Heel. The 22-year-old has three-down abilities after carrying the ball 281 times for 1,660 yards and 15 touchdowns in 2024, adding 38 receptions for 373 yards and two more TDs through the air. D'Andre Swift's fantasy value would take a huge hit if Chicago were to select Hampton.

Tyreek Hill Apr 15 12:50pm CT
Tyreek Hill

Miami Dolphins general manager Chris Grier said that the team isn't pursuing a trade of All-Pro wide receiver Tyreek Hill, and no team has called them attempting to trade for Hill. Grier joked that if a team called to offer the Dolphins two first-round picks for Hill, they'd maybe consider it. Hill, who had a disappointing 2024 campaign by his standards while battling through a left-wrist injury that required surgery, insinuated he'd be heading out of town after the season finale last year. However, he later went back on his statements and said he made them out of frustration after missing the playoffs. The 31-year-old speedster could easily bounce back in 2025 with better health, unfortunately his fantasy value is also tied to oft-injured quarterback Tua Tagovailoa. The eight-time Pro Bowler finished shy of 1,000 receiving yards last year for the first time since 2019, when he played in just 12 games in KC.

Isaiah Simmons Apr 15 12:40pm CT
Isaiah Simmons

New York Giants free-agent linebacker Isaiah Simmons visited with the Green Bay Packers on Monday, a source told NFL Network's Ian Rapoport. Simmons is an intriguing potential addition for the Packers after he played for the Giants the last two seasons. The 26-year-old was originally the eighth overall pick by the Arizona Cardinals in 2020 out of Clemson. Simmons came into the NFL as a hybrid linebacker/cornerback and has bounced around at corner and linebacker in his time with Arizona and New York. He wasn't as productive in his two years in the Big Apple, contributing 71 combined tackles (45 solo), one sack, one interception returned for a touchdown, five pass breakups, two forced fumbles and a fumble recovery in 34 games (five starts). Simmons could have a bigger role on defense when he latches on with a new team, but IDP fantasy managers will likely be avoiding him.
