Jaguars, Browns swap cornerbacks, draft picks

Thu Oct 9 9:45am ET
Field Level Media

The Jacksonville Jaguars reportedly acquired Greg Newsome II and a 2026 sixth-round pick to the Cleveland Browns in exchange for fellow cornerback Tyson Campbell and a seventh-round selection in the same draft.

The teams confirmed the swap early Thursday morning, the second trade this week for the Browns, who also traded backup quarterback Joe Flacco to the Bengals.

Newsome, 25, is playing this season on a fifth-year option after being selected by the Browns with the 26th overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft. He has recorded 23 tackles in five games (all starts) this season. The seventh-round pick Jacksonville receives originated with the Philadelphia Eagles.

Newsome has totaled 178 tackles and three interceptions in 59 career games (47 starts) with Cleveland.

Campbell, 25, has 34 tackles and a forced fumble in five games (all starts) this season, one year removed from signing a four-year, $76.5 million extension.

Cleveland received a draft pick in 2026 in the sixth round that Jacksonville received in a previous deal with the Jets.

Campbell has 296 tackles, six interceptions, three forced fumbles and two fumble recoveries in 60 career games (59 starts) with the Jaguars.

The Browns made multiple moves at the cornerback position on Wednesday, signing Dom Jones to the active roster, Dee Williams to the practice squad and placing Ameer Speed on the practice squad injured list.

Waiver Wire Pickups: Week 6

Player Notes
Kareem Hunt Oct 9 11:30am ET
Kareem Hunt

Kansas City Chiefs running back Kareem Hunt remains a low-end RB3/flex option ahead of his Week 6 matchup with the Detroit Lions. For the most part, Hunt has played behind backfield mate Isiah Pacheco in terms of snaps. However, the veteran boasts more carries (43) and yards (164) than Pacheco, and has the team's goal-line role on lockdown. With that said, the 30-year-old's workload has been limited, as he has yet to see more than 14 touches in a single contest. Furthermore, Kansas City has been one of the more pass-happy teams in the league, and quarterback Patrick Mahomes leads the team in rushing (190). Hunt is a fine start considering his touchdown upside, but he has yet to eclipse 5.7 fantasy points in the appearances he didn't hit pay dirt.

Tua Tagovailoa Oct 9 11:30am ET
Tua Tagovailoa

According to Miami Dolphins offensive coordinator Frank Smith, quarterback Tua Tagovailoa (hip, thumb) is expected to be "without hindered performance" in Week 6 when his team squares off with the visiting Los Angeles Chargers. The 27-year-old was a limited participant at Wednesday's practice after picking up thumb and hip injuries in their loss to the Panthers in Week 5. Tagovailoa didn't appear to be hampered by the injuries last weekend, and it's good news that the team expects him to be ready on Sunday. Fantasy managers will want to continue keeping an eye on his status over the next few days, but it doesn't seem that he'll be in danger of being inactive.

Evan Engram Oct 9 11:00am ET
Evan Engram

Denver Broncos tight end Evan Engram found the end zone for the first time this season in Week 5, but his overall production remains underwhelming. Through five games, Engram has caught 12 of 19 targets for 95 yards and a touchdown while struggling to carve out a consistent role in Denver's offense. Engram continues to split reps with Adam Trautman and Nate Adkins, limiting his snap share to just 41%, which ranks 56th among all tight ends. He also ranks 30th in route participation (53.9%) and 27th in fantasy points per game, highlighting his diminished opportunity in Sean Payton's offense. The Broncos face the New York Jets in Week 6, who have allowed the sixth most fantasy points to tight ends this season, but until Engram's usage increases, he's best left on the waiver wire in most formats.

Sam Darnold Oct 9 10:50am ET
Sam Darnold

Seattle Seahawks quarterback Sam Darnold has been one of the NFL's most efficient passers through the first five weeks of the season. The veteran has completed 73% of his passes (third-best in the NFL) while ranking seventh in both passing yards and touchdowns. After a breakout 2024 campaign in Minnesota, where he threw for 4,319 yards and 35 touchdowns, some questioned whether Darnold could replicate that success in Seattle. So far, he's answered emphatically. With Jaxon Smith-Njigba emerging as a true No. 1 receiver, Darnold is producing like a top-10 fantasy quarterback. The Seahawks face the Jacksonville Jaguars in Week 6, who lead the NFL in interceptions, making Darnold a slightly risky start. Still, he remains a strong high-end QB2 with weekly upside in fantasy leagues moving forward.

Kenneth Gainwell Oct 9 10:40am ET
Kenneth Gainwell

Pittsburgh Steelers running back Kenneth Gainwell exploded in Week 4's game in Ireland, but fantasy managers should temper expectations moving forward. With Jaylen Warren sidelined against the Minnesota Vikings, Gainwell took full advantage of the opportunity, racking up 134 total yards and two touchdowns on 25 carries. With Warren practicing ahead of Week 6, the former Eagles back will return to his RB2 role in the offense. A tough Week 6 matchup against the Cleveland Browns looms large, as Cleveland has allowed the fewest rushing yards in the NFL through five weeks. Even if he continues to earn touches behind Warren, Gainwell remains a risky fantasy start this week.

Rhamondre Stevenson Oct 9 10:40am ET
Rhamondre Stevenson

New England Patriots running back Rhamondre Stevenson is poised for an increased workload moving forward. Through five games, Stevenson has totaled 293 scrimmage yards and two touchdowns on 51 carries, leading all New England running backs in usage. With Antonio Gibson (knee) suffering a season-ending injury, both Stevenson and rookie TreVeyon Henderson are expected to see expanded roles. While Stevenson has battled ball-security issues over the past two seasons, he remains the favorite for early-down and goal-line work. Henderson, meanwhile, should see his role grow in the passing game, giving him PPR appeal in deeper formats. Both backs carry fantasy value moving forward, and each should be rostered in all leagues as the Patriots' backfield reshapes for the rest of the season.

Terry McLaurin Oct 9 10:30am ET
Terry McLaurin

Washington Commanders wide receiver Terry McLaurin (quad/hip) appears unlikely to suit up in Week 6 against the Chicago Bears. The veteran wideout has missed the past two games with a lingering quad injury and did not practice on Wednesday, putting his status in serious doubt. McLaurin signed a new contract before the season but has struggled to find his rhythm, a trend that has been common among receivers coming off holdouts or limited offseason participation. Through three games, he's caught 10 of 17 targets for 149 yards and has yet to score a touchdown. In McLaurin's absence, free-agent addition Deebo Samuel Sr. has emerged as the Commanders' top receiving option. Fantasy managers should monitor practice reports on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday to determine if McLaurin has any chance to return this week.

Darnell Mooney Oct 9 10:20am ET
Darnell Mooney

Atlanta Falcons wide receiver Darnell Mooney (hamstring) has been among the disappointing fantasy receivers this year, but could return to his regularly scheduled role in Week 6. According to Marc Raimondi of ESPN, Falcons coach Raheem Morris said he would have more information on the receiver following Thursday's practice, but the team initially believed the injury would not force Mooney to miss any games. Mooney has not yet had a big fantasy week in 2025, but did draw 11 targets in his last full game. He's still sharing targets with Drake London, but he finished last year as the No. 31 overall fantasy receiver alongside London also. Given good health, Mooney could be due to return to a workload more similar to last season in the coming weeks.

Kendre Miller Oct 9 10:20am ET
Kendre Miller

New Orleans Saints running back Kendre Miller should be rostered in all fantasy leagues heading into Week 6. The rookie has seen his workload steadily increase, logging back-to-back games with double-digit carries and totaling 119 yards and a touchdown over that span. Starting running back Alvin Kamara suffered an ankle injury during Wednesday's practice, putting his status for the Week 6 matchup against the New England Patriots in question. Even if Kamara suits up, his workload could be limited, giving Miller a strong chance to see meaningful touches once again. Beyond the short-term upside, Miller offers long-term appeal as well. Trade rumors have begun to swirl around Kamara, with reports suggesting the Saints could move him to a contending team before the deadline. If that happens, Miller would immediately step into a featured role. With both injury uncertainty and potential trade movement ahead, Miller should be added in all formats before his price skyrockets.

Cam Skattebo Oct 9 10:10am ET
Cam Skattebo

According to a new story by Jordan Raanan of ESPN, the New York Giants view running back Cam Skattebo as both their top option of the present and the future. The rookie from Arizona State has received the lion's share of work with Tyrone Tracy Jr. (shoulder) out for the past couple weeks, but the team apparently views Skattebo as their preferred option for the near term. Fantasy managers have seen nice return on investment in Skattebo, especially in PPR formats, in which his 14 catches the past three games has paired nicely with 198 rushing yards and a touchdown. The split between the two backs will be worth watching, but it seems like Skattebo will carry the upper hand.

Rico Dowdle Oct 9 10:00am ET
Rico Dowdle

Carolina Panthers offensive coordinator Brad Idzik alluded to more of a platoon at running back after Rico Dowdle's 200-yard explosion in Week 5 against Miami, according to David Newton of ESPN. The OC said Dowdle having so much success is a "good problem to have" when Hubbard (calf) returns from injury. Hubbard, who didn't practice Wednesday, had been the clear top option for the Panthers, playing in 50-plus percent of the team's offensive snaps every week he appeared. But after Dowdle went for 206 rushing yards, a touchdown, and three catches for another 28 yards, the team obviously liked what it saw. Managers should prepare for the possibility that both backs will play going forward for Carolina.

Hunter Long Oct 9 9:40am ET
Hunter Long

The Jacksonville Jaguars will spend the next month without tight end Brenton Strange (quadriceps), opening the door for fellow tight end Hunter Long to see a major increase increase in snaps heading into Week 6. The Jags placed Strange on injured reserve on Tuesday, assuring he's out through Week 9, and Long seems likely to take on significantly more snaps. When Strange departed Monday's win against Kansas City, Long played 60% of the team's offensive snaps, though it led to only one target. Managers should dial back expectations, as the fifth-year man has never been much of a fantasy asset, though he'll have an opportunity like never before as the Jags rely on him and Johnny Mundt to take on bigger roles for the four weeks.

From RotoBaller

Tyquan Thornton Oct 9 9:40am ET
Tyquan Thornton

Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver Tyquan Thornton could be in line for at least another week of additional opportunity in Week 6 after going for a season-high in yards in Monday night's loss to Jacksonville. The 25-year-old played 45% of the Chiefs' snaps and turned five targets into three catches for 90 yards, which could lead to some additional work as a downfield threat as K.C. aims to survive one more week without receiver Rashee Rice (suspension). The team still considers Rice to be its top target, but Thornton is part of the piecemeal effort to replace him, giving him some waiver appeal in an enticing matchup against Detroit in Week 6.

Jake Tonges Oct 9 9:30am ET
Jake Tonges

The San Fransisco 49ers will spend at least one more week without star tight end George Kittle (hamstring), which opens the door for backup Jake Tonges to continue being a streaming option with his team set for a plus matchup against the Tampa Bay Bucs. The fourth-year man from Cal hasn't been an exact 1:1 replacement for Kittle's do-it-all skill set, but he's done well as a pass catcher, ranking in the top 10 among fantasy tight ends thanks to 19 receptions and three touchdowns in five weeks. Though Tonges' workload is going to decrease as soon as Kittle comes back, Tonges tied for the team lead in targets last week. He'll carry lineup appeal into Week 6, especially in formats that play more than one tight end.

Aidan Hutchinson Oct 9 1:10am ET
Aidan Hutchinson

Detroit Lions edge defender Aidan Hutchinson is tied for third in the league with five sacks on the season and "looks destined for a new deal", according to Jeremy Fowler of ESPN. With Hutchinson in the fourth year of his career, he is extension eligible, and the two sides have had discussions about a possible long-term deal. He'll be expected to land in the range of Green Bay edge rusher Micah Parsons's record-setting new contract. Fowler is unsure if Hutchinson will surpass that mark, but will almost certainly be in the same neighborhood. It's great to see Hutchinson back and fully healthy after suffering a tough leg injury last season, and he is back as one of the best defensive players in the league.

Will Dissly Oct 9 1:00am ET
Will Dissly

Los Angeles Chargers tight end Will Dissly (knee) is off the injury report ahead of Sunday's matchup against the Dolphins. Dissly was able to get a full week of practice in last week, but ultimately didn't suit up against Washington. He missed three straight games with the knee injury, but appears to be on the right track to play in Week 6. He'll likely serve as a depth piece behind rookie Oronde Gasden and Tyler Conklin.

From RotoBaller

Juwan Johnson Oct 9 12:50am ET
Juwan Johnson

New Orleans Saints tight end Juwan Johnson (ankle) was a limited participant in practice on Wednesday, according to Mike Triplett of New Orleans Football. Johnson was questionable headed into Week 5 against the Giants, but was ultimately able to suit up and played 85% of the snaps. The returns of tight ends Taysom Hill and Foster Moreau could limit future opportunities for Johnson, but he is still the best pass catcher of the three and one of the Saints' best options overall. But he has fallen off a bit over the last two weeks after a hot start to the season. He'll rank as a mid-range TE2 for Week 6 against the Patriots.

Dyami Brown Oct 9 12:40am ET
Dyami Brown

Jacksonville Jaguars wide receiver Dyami Brown (shoulder) was listed as limited in practice on Wednesday, according to the team. The 25-year-old missed their Week 4 matchup but was cleared from the injury report ahead of the Week 5 game against the Chiefs. He popped again here to begin the practice week, but he should likely be good to go again in Week 6. He caught two of four targets for 15 yards against the Chiefs and will likely only be relevant in deeper leagues on Sunday.

Bhayshul Tuten Oct 9 12:30am ET
Bhayshul Tuten

Jacksonville Jaguars running back Bhayshul Tuten (shoulder) was limited in practice on Wednesday, according to the team. After being limited in practice all last week, Tuten begins the Week 6 practice week with the same tag. He played in Monday night's win over the Chiefs, handling four rushes for only six yards and catching his lone target for five yards. The team may be keeping the rookie fresh during the week with the shoulder issue. Tuten will remain the primary backup to Travis Etienne Jr. for the time being and ranks as a low-end flex play for Week 6, assuming he is good to go.

Mac Jones Oct 9 12:20am ET
Mac Jones

San Francisco 49ers quarterback Mac Jones (knee) was limited in practice on Wednesday, according to Matt Barrows of The Athletic. Jones has been battling a PCL sprain that he aggravated in their Week 3 win over Arizona. The injury hasn't affected Jones' performance too much as he has played very well in place of Brock Purdy (toe). In his three starts, Jones is completing 66.7% of his passes and averaging 302 passing yards and two touchdowns per game. And he showed tremendous fight while clearly playing hurt in their upset win over the Rams in primetime. While the 49ers will be without most of their pass-catching core again, Jones was able to make it work, mostly through Kendrick Bourne and Christian McCaffrey. Assuming Jones is good to go, he will rank as a high-end fantasy QB2 for a potential shootout against Tampa Bay in Week 6.
