4 DIVISION WINNERS AND 4 WILD CARDS MAKE THE PLAYOFFS.
TIE-BREAKERS ARE AS FOLLOWS:
1. OVERALL RECORD
2. HEAD TO HEAD MATCHUP
3. DIV. RECORD
4. CONF. RECORD
5. TOTAL POINTS
*CAN ONLY USE A FILTER IF ALL TEAMS INVOLVED ARE "EXACTLY" TIED. I.E. 3 WAY TIE, ALL 3 PARTICIPANTS MUST HAVE PLAYED EACH OTHER THE SAME AMOUNT OF TIMES FOR IT TO BE USED. OTHERWISE YOU GO TO THE NEXT CATEGORY. ALWAYS MOVING FORWARD, NEVER BACKWARDS TO DETERMINE WINNERS.
IN THE CASE OF A TIE ON TOTAL POINTS, UNLESS WE COME UP WITH A BETTER PLAN, BOTH TEAMS WOULD GET IN, AND JUST HAVE MORE PEOPLE IN THE PLAYOFFS. DRAFT ORDER WOULD BE DETERMINED BY TOTAL POINTS HEAD TO HEAD IF NEC, IF STILL EVEN - GO TO A COIN FLIP.
ONCE A PLAY BEGINS, OFFENSE STAYS OFFENSE, DEFENSE STAYS DEFENSE. THIS WILL TAKE CARE OF THE MCCARDELL PROBLEM WE HAD LAST YEAR. IT WOULD BE A RUNNING TD FOR MCCARDELL. IF IT HAPPENS ON A KR, IT STAYS A KR.
THE KR AND DEFENSE POSITIONS HAVE BEEN COMBINED.
TRADING BETWEEN TEAMS WILL BE CLOSED WHEN WEEK 12 KICKS OFF. THIS IS SO WE DONT HAVE THE YANKEES COMING IN AND BUYING ALL THE PLAYOFF PLAYERS.
*ANYTIME A LINEUP IS NOT SUBMITTED, YOU WILL AUTOMATICALLY GET THE EXACT SAME LINEUP FROM THE PREVIOUS WEEK. EVEN IF YOUR KICKER IS ON A BYE THIS WEEK, WE WILL NOT PUT YOUR OTHER GUY IN FOR YOU. THIS IS YOUR PENALTY FOR NOT SUBMITTING A LINEUP.
* IF THERE HAPPENS TO BE AN EARLY GAME THAT WEEK LIKE THURSDAY OR SATURDAY, AND THOSE PLAYERS WERE NOT SUBMITTED BEFORE THE GAME, YOU WILL NOT GET THEM ON A DEFAULT LINEUP. THOSE EARLIER PLAYERS WILL BE OMITTED FROM YOUR LINEUP. OTHERWISE, PEOPLE WOULD WAIT TO SEE HOW THE EARLY GAME GOES, AND THEN DECIDE MAYBE TO NOT PUT A LINEUP IN TO GET THE DEFAULT.
*IF A LINEUP IS NOT PUT IN FOR WEEK ONE, THEN YOU ARE AN IDIOT. NOT SURE HOW WE CAN FIX THAT.
PAYOUTS ARE AS FOLLOWS:
1ST DIV. WINNER 35%
2ND DIV. WINNER 20%
3RD DIV. WINNER 10%
4TH DIV. WINNER 10%
PLAYOFF WINNER 20%
PLAYOFF RUNNER-UP 5%
PLAYOFFS: Seeding goes as follows -
1) Overall best record (between the 2 conference winners)
2) other conference winner
3) better of the 2 remaining division winners
4) other division winner
5,6,7 & 8) best records remaining
In case total points are tied among those vying for last spot(s), and it gets to that tie-break, then they all get in.
Playoff draft is 2 parts. Both parts go 1-8,1-8, etc. There is no snake, that is their home-field advantage. You only draft one starting line-up, and your players score points until they are eliminated. Your line-up is active for the entire playoffs. The Cup Winner is the team with most points accrued during the post-season. If there is a tie, then the winner is the team that scored more points in the Super Bowl. If still a tie, you use the semifinal weeks total points, then quarters , then wild-card week in that order.
2-part playoff draft:
Part 1- (Saving draft) In order of your playoff seed, draft ONLY players that you want from your CURRENT roster that made the playoffs. This allows you to keep good players that you had all year long, for the playoffs as well. In many cases 2 different teams will have the same player. I.E. Peyton Manning - The higher seed will have the advantage to draft him first, then the other team can't pick him. (all players can only be chosen once) As we go through the saving draft, once you dont save a player on your turn, you are done for the saving draft. We continue through the draft until everyone stops "saving players"
***** All of these players you have just saved will be staggered throughout your own team draft. It would be unfair to put them all at the front and let others who didnt have any playoff guys on their team get to pick through the top remaining players for a few rounds. It would also be unfair to slot them all at the end and allow the top seeds to make a super-team. So they are staggered in this way.
We're drafting one lineup, so its a 9 round draft. (10 NOW WITH A FLEX) Picture the draft board.....If you save one player, it goes in your 10th round slot. If you save a 2nd player, it goes in your 8th round slot. 3rd takes a 6th round slot, 4th takes a 4nd round slot, and a 5th would take your 2nd pick. If you save 6 or more players, you would jump back to your 9th round slot, and follow that with rounds 7,5,3,1. ( if you save all 10 guys by chance)
Basically, its nice to put a few stars in your 10th 8th 6th and maybe 4th round slots before we start the open draft. However, if you have a lot of good playoff guys, you will have to weigh your options. Do you save a 5th guy and give up your second round pick? However, if you save 6 or more, it goes back to the end of the odd rounds and counts back to round 1. (So if you save at least 5 guys, it doesnt really hurt to save a few more)
Part 2 (Open draft) Starting at seed #1 again, fill in the rest of the draft board, in order using all remaining players.
*****Added 2013 Season*****
8 teams now make the playoffs.
RB / WR / QB yardage was changed to allow for bonuses at lower tiers leading to the previous ones.
The PAY UP poll would increase loss amounts for teams that pay late. I would likely set a date 1-2 months after the super bowl. Anyone that misses that date gets a $1.00/loss increase. So instead of 5 dollars for a loss and 10 for a dbl loss it would be 6 & 12 for that team now. (and would increase one dollar/loss for each additional month they dont pay)
The only way to reduce the fines over time would be to pay faster in the years you owe money, and it would come off the books at the same one dollar/month you pay early rate. Keep in mind, years that you win money, you don't get a chance to reduce the fines, because you are receiving money. So just don't fall behind or it's your own fault. (For those of you really paying attention, no...you can't reduce it below the 5/10 mark)
This way no draft spots or other teams are affected. People who tend to pay late will just be choosing to pay more than everyone else.
***** officially added 2016*****
Once the playoff draft is over and before the playoffs start, teams are allowed to make a trade to their roster for $20.00 each. Maybe your guy gets injured, maybe you see a better player, etc. First come first serve and will be based on e-mails or posts to the league since it will have a time stamp.
********officially added for the 2018 season ***************
1) More points for Yardage - This is something we have adjusted a few times already and we are going to raise it a bit more, but not take it to the standard league levels. RB’s, WR’s & TE’s will get 1 point for every 20 yards. Q.B.’s will get 1 point for every 75 yards.
2) Kicking – We have changed this a bunch. Last year kickers were hardly noticed. The 50 and 60 yarders need to matter more. 0-39 yards = 3 pts. / 40 – 49 yards = 4 pts. / 50-59 yards = 6 pts. / and 60+ = 8 pts.
3) Flex position – We are adding a flex position to see how it goes. This slot can be filled from your 6 remaining RB’s, WR’s and TE’s – we are not drafting any more players than we did before so we don’t upset the free agent pool.
4) True Doubles – The doubles or "getting doubled" by someone used to be a 45 point spread. Now we are going to true doubles. (For example, 40 – 20 would be a double, 100 – 55 would no longer be a double)
5) Rolling Lineup Deadlines – Assuming the site allows this, you will not have to have your entire lineup in at 10:00 on Sunday. (I.E. if you have 2 rb’s on Monday and want to wait until game time to pick one, you should be able to now) If you miss your time, or forget to add that last guy before their game starts, that will be on you. (To avoid that, put in a full lineup, and change yours at the last second if necessary)
6) Waiver Wire / Free Agents – This also is dependent on the site allowing for it, but I believe it does. (If it ultimately does not, we revert to how we have always done it) We normally open the floodgates for trading on Tuesday's at 9:00 PST. This was not always the fairest way since some people may not be available at those times, maybe some people have faster connections, etc. We will still have that open period of free agent pick ups starting on Wednesday likely earlier around say 7:00 PST. However, there will be a blind bidding waiver period all day Tuesday, and up to noon on Wednesday. This will make it more fair for people who cant always be available at any one given time. Every team would get $1,000 in fantasy dollars. Starting Tuesday morning, people will be able to log in and place a blind bid on any free agent they may want to pick up. You can bid any or all of your $1,000, but you probably don't want to spend all of it in the first few weeks. Basically, let's say Flacco goes down week 1. Lots of people want to pick up Lamar Jackson. You bid what amount you think will be enough for you to win and get him. The bidding will last up until Wednesday at 12:00 Noon (PST), and then they will all be processed shortly after. High bid gets the guy, and then at probably 7:00 PST Wednesday night, we open it for all transactions like normal. (all pick ups are still $3 in real life whether they are bids or add/drops) You can bid on as many players as you like and the minimum bid is $1.
7) Weekly winners - we did $25 to the high scores for the last 4 weeks for the last couple of years. We are now going to give $20 to the high score of each of the 17 weeks. ($340 out of the pot is no big deal. lets say you win 3rd place or 10% of the pot - were talking 34 dollars and you likely had at least one high score if you did that well anyways, so get over it :>)
8) Integrated Loser Playoff System - This is my favorite addition, and no... not because I am always a loser. (just mostly last year) We always end up with people wanting to keep playing when they don't make the playoffs, and they do a loser playoff anyways. Now all 12 teams that do not make the playoffs will have the ability to submit a lineup for the playoffs, and have a chance to break even for the season. That's right, No matter how much you owe at the end of the year, If you are the King of the loser bracket your debt will be reduced to ZERO. There will not be another draft for these 12 teams for a million reasons, but it will be done in this manner instead:
Each non-playoff team can submit a playoff lineup to the commish. The lineup you submit will be comprised of ANY/ALL players in that years playoff run, with one twist. You can only pick at most 2 players from any one team. I.E. 2 Patriots, 2 Chargers, 2 Eagles, etc. Lineups are as follows:
QB - 1
RB - 2
WR - 3
TE - 1
FLEX - 1
K - 1
DEF - 1
In the event there is a tie, we will use the same rules as the main league does. (most pts in SB, then in semis, etc.) If 2 teams happen to pick the exact same guys and win, then they both win back half of their losses. If a team does not submit a lineup at all, then they don't get to play.
***** changed for 2019 season *****
Adjusted the total %'s that get paid out. now reads 35,20,10,10 - 20,5 in the playoffs.
Changed the Waiver total to $1,000 instead of $2,500.
*** added covid year 2020 ***
Contingencies for a partial or incomplete season:
Here is the plan for this season, or any others for that matter that don't play out as intended.
1) if the season is interrupted but still eventually plays out through a playoffs, then we will award $$$ and the trophy as normal.
2) if the season is interrupted and there is never a playoffs for the season, then *$$$ will be awarded, but no trophy awarded.
Depending on the number of games played, the results would be as follows:
If covid interrupts the season week to week:
I activated a new IR function (won't know how it works until someone tries it) In theory, you could put someone designated with covid on IR so you can use that spot to pick someone else up. I still think it should be a transaction fee when you pick up the new guy, but no additional charge for this temporary IR spot.
if something covid related happens say late in the week like Sunday or Monday night, and there are no options available to pick up any players yet to play for the week, I don't think there is anything we can really do to fix that. It would need to be brought to my attention so we can make sure there are no options available even if bad ones. Were all in the same boat/disadvantage should that scenario happen.
If a whole team gets put on hold or any games get postponed, we may have to "hold" those results until those games are ultimately played. Sometimes they wait until the end of the season to see if the game in question makes a difference, and we may have to wait too. I don't know how we would deal with injured or traded players that now don't play in that future game. Open to ideas ahead of time, and we'll cross that bridge otherwise when/if necessary.
Let me know if you think of other potential issues, etc.
Otherwise, let's get ready for the draft, and to enjoy some quality television programming...It's been a minute!
