Welcome to the Family Hendo
Off-Season Trade: With many holes to fill I moved off of 1-2 down to 1-7. Turned out to be a great move as I still landed a blue chip RB (was worried about this after the Judkins arrest)
1-2 for 1-7 (T.Henderson), D.Smith, 2-11 (T.Harris), $50 (Tua)
Needed a better 2nd WR and more depth everywhere so the trade really helped there
Auction: Many holes to fill. Holes everywhere with expiring contracts. Basically depth filling but a huge hole in backup QB. Used the funds from earlier trade to bid on Darnold and Tua. Both approaching the $50 dollar range ended up with Tua at $50. Yikes! Nothing to write home about on the rest
Draft: Hoped to land a RB at 1-7, but would have settled for a WR. When I made the trade down I knew 1-7 was still a sweet position to be in..but looked a little dimmer when Judkins was arrested. When Harvey was chosen at 1-5 I knew I had either Johnson or Henderson. I would have been happy with either.
I also viewed 2-2 to be a good spot. When we got to 1-10 my short list for that spot went away in the next 4 picks. Egbuka, Warren, Loveland and Higgins were targets here. If Judkins hadn't found trouble one of those 4 would have made it to me. But alas, they were all taken so I settled for Judkins. Slim chance he sees the field this year but the talent is there to wait on. Wouldn't be the first time I drafted a player that wouldn't help in year 1.
2-11 was a pick that I got in the earlier trade. I was looking to target Sampson here at this spot as I had around this area in 2 other drafts. Also looking at TEs for this pick but when T.Harris fell to me I pounced as WR was a position of need.
Was hoping Sampson would fall to the 3.2 pick but Pez snatched him up a pick prior. "Settled" with Arroyo. I never targeted him in my other drafts but once Fant was sent packing he entered into my 2nd tier TE choices along with Ferguson/Taylor. I also was looking at D.Douglas at this spot which Capo took earlier at 2-10
Recap/Outlook: I feel it was a good draft coupled with the trade this spring. If Judkins can get through the legal issues this might turn into a great draft.
With health and a bit of fortune I can compete for division and playoff spot. Competing for a title is unlikely
Notes and thoughts: Rd 1 Harvey went a bit earlier than I thought he would. Ive seen him taken at 3 and 10 so far this summer. Capo taking Skatt at 1-8 was highest I have seen him go. Capital taking Bill in the 2nd let me know I wasn't the only owner buying the hype. I was able to snag Bill in 2 other drafts in the 6th rd area. SoCal snagged a lot of talent in the late picks...really liked Taylor at 3-12 and Noel at 4.4. Well done Pez. VanCity with Tuten at 4.1 was much later than earlier drafts. Seen him go in the mid 2nd so well done there Jord.
