Tori Devourers Her Competition. She's HUNGRY!!!
What a standings log jam at the top! Currently we have 7 teams who only have 2 losses, with six of those teams with a 6-2 record (Brew Crew has a 7-2 record). And out of the 18 teams we have in our league, 11 of them are over .500. Right now there is no clear cut favorite in our league, tho there are a few teams making a case for it. Spankyz is still one of the cream of the crop teams even though they have been on just a little skid the past few weeks. Ok maybe "skid" is too harsh of a term, more like treading water. After going through undefeated the first three weeks, Spankyz has split their games in Week 4 and 5. Their first loss came to the Cheeseheads in Week 4 122-113 and a big upset loss to We've Got the Juice 144-122 this past week. What makes Spankyz still in great position is he's still scoring a decent amount of points each week, his 113 was the lowest of the season. And he is the overall leader in points scored for the season with 652 (just counting the one scoring output per week). A big free agent pick up of Micheal Carter from Arizona bolsters his running back core as he tries to hold out until Lamar Jackson gets healthy to return to the lineup.
Another strong contender, dare I say, is Fish Ticklers? Jrod made a statement at the beginning of the year losing a shootout to Spankyz by 1 point 149-148, as people wondered even with the loss "could this be Jrod's year?" Well, 134 points posted this last week was good enough to get two wins versus JH Express and Sea-Chickens to vault the Fish Ticklers to 6-2 and put them in a first place tie with Spankyz, Dart and Injured Reserves. But, whats just as impressive is the Ticklers have scored 651 points, just one less than the very explosive Spankyz team. And now over a five week period, which is a pretty decent sample size, Fish Ticklers could be for real this year. We were saying this a little bit last year, with the Ticklers looking like they were going to make the playoffs almost for sure until they lost 4 of their last 5 and missed out on the post season show. We will keep an eye on how this year fares.
Another contender we must take perhaps seriously is the Cheeseheads. Tori Lemke has gotten off to fast starts in the past only to fade back, back, way back in the standings. But, at 6-2 and a half game behind Brew Crew in their division, Cheeseheads may be for real. We mentioned earlier they were the first team to beat Spankyz back in Week 4, and last week they amassed 144 points to coast to double wins versus Suckaditka and Captain Caveman. Thier 616 overall points puts the Cheeseheads third behind Spankyz and Fish Ticklers, and in a little weaker Kelly Championship Division, Cheeseheads could be not only a playoff team, but a team to win that side of the playoff bracket.
Brew Crew leads all teams at 7-2 as Big Les continues to make good on his promise that this is the year of the BEAST! Mikey has quietly built a good team to get into first place contention at 6-2 scoring 158 points as the league leader last week to register two wins, and the Dart Knight has also held despite some injuries to maintain first place at 6-2 as well despite losing a close battle against Brew Crew 127-126 last week. Jamodaddy scored a big win last week against Brew Crew in a battle of the top contenders, early in the season with a 129-127 narrow win, and also got a win versus Sea-Chickens to move to 6-2. Staying over .500 were JH Express at 5-3, 85 Bears at 5-4 and A-Dawgs 5-4 all three teams spliting their games last week. Wang n Tang dropped two games to move down to 4-4. Teams in the bottom half of each divisions struggled, except for The Juice squad who came to life scoring 144 points to beat Spankyz and 85 Bears to move back to relevance at 3-5.
