Celtics guard Jaylen Brown said he'd pay the fine for his postgame rant against the officiating crew after Boston's 100-95 loss to the visiting San Antonio Spurs on Saturday.

The time has come to pay up, as the NBA on Monday fined Brown $35,000 for his public criticism of the officiating.

The fine comes in response to extended comments made to reporters after Saturday's game and at least two posts on X.

"I feel like, honestly, they just got away with a lot, and I'm tired of the inconsistency. I'll accept the fine at this point. I thought it was some bulls--- tonight. I think (the Spurs are) a good defensive team, but they ain't that damn good," Brown said.

"I hope somebody can just pull up the clips, because it's the same s--- every time we play a good team. It's like they refuse to make a call, then call touch fouls on the other end. That's just extremely frustrating, bro. Like, we play hard. We were outplaying our expectations. We compete hard on the defensive end. Then they reward the other team with touch fouls. Then we go down there and guys are allowed to get away with ... I hope, just somebody please pull it up."

Brown called out officiating crew chief Curtis Blair by name in his postgame comments.

"Every time we play a good team, the inconsistency is crazy. I'll take the f---ing fine. Curtis, all them dudes was terrible tonight," Brown said. "I don't care. They can fine me whatever they want. But it's crazy. Every time we play a good team, it's the same bulls---. Somebody please pull up the clips."

Brown also bemoaned the lack of fouls called against San Antonio. The Celtics were 3-for-4 from the free-throw line, with two of those coming with just 37 seconds left in the game. The Spurs, on the other hand, went 14-for-20 from the free-throw line.

"If we can't get to the free-throw line and teams are allowed to be physical and bump us off our spots, et cetera, then it's hard to win games like that," Brown said. "We shot four free throws tonight and lost the game by four. Not to say that's the whole game, the whole story. We got to be better in spots. I got to be better in spots. But goddamn. I'm driving to the basket. I'm physical. I don't flop. I don't shy away from contact. I go up strong. I'm athletic. And nothing. Zero free throws tonight. The inconsistency is f---ing crazy. Give me the fine."

With Jayson Tatum sidelined with an Achilles tear, Brown has been having an MVP-candidate season for the Celtics, averaging 29.5 points, 6.4 rebounds and 5.0 assists in 36 games. But he shot just 11-for-28 from the field against the Spurs and was responsible for five of Boston's 10 turnovers.

Player Notes
Christian Braun Mon Jan 12 9:40pm

Denver Nuggets guard/forward Christian Braun (ankle) has been listed as out for Tuesday's game against the New Orleans Pelicans. Braun appears to have suffered a setback in his recovery from an ankle injury. Prior to Sunday's matchup against the Milwaukee Bucks, the team initially listed Braun as probable on the injury report, but he ultimately missed the game. Unfortunately, Braun must now sit out a second consecutive matchup. In Braun's absence, the Nuggets will lean more on Tim Hardaway Jr. and Bruce Brown.

Aaron Gordon Mon Jan 12 9:30pm

Denver Nuggets forward/center Aaron Gordon (hamstring) is listed as probable for Tuesday's game against the New Orleans Pelicans. He is expected to remain in the lineup for a fourth consecutive appearance. Despite being on a minutes restriction, Gordon logged 32 minutes in Sunday's win over the Milwaukee Bucks, finishing with 23 points, six rebounds, and four assists. It's an encouraging sign that he is nearing 100 percent. However, Gordon's workload may again be limited against New Orleans, as it's the first game of a back-to-back.

Coby White Mon Jan 12 9:20pm

Chicago Bulls guard Coby White (calf) won't play on Tuesday night against the Houston Rockets. The Bulls begin a back-to-back, and White will miss the first game to manage a right calf injury. Josh Giddey (hamstring) isn't ready to return either, meaning the trio of Tre Jones, Ayo Dosunmu, and Kevin Huerter will continue to feature more prominently in the rotation. Due to the Rockets' recent struggles, this looks like an attractive fantasy matchup for the Bulls.

Jamal Murray Mon Jan 12 9:20pm

Denver Nuggets point guard Jamal Murray (ankle, illness) remains questionable on the injury report ahead of Tuesday's encounter with the New Orleans Pelicans. He's battling an illness and an ankle issue, and the team has ruled Murray out for back-to-back games after initially listing him as questionable. Jalen Pickett has seen an increased workload lately due to Murray's ongoing health issues, averaging 14.0 points, 5.8 rebounds, and 4.8 assists over the last four games. If Murray sits again on Tuesday, Pickett will be an attractive fantasy target with a favorable matchup.

Josh Giddey Mon Jan 12 9:10pm

Chicago Bulls guard Josh Giddey (hamstring) will be sidelined for a seventh consecutive game on Tuesday against the Houston Rockets. He was only a limited participant in Monday's practice. However, Giddey's return to the lineup could be near, as the team plans to re-evaluate him this week. In the meantime, Tre Jones will continue to work as Chicago's primary playmaker. The 26-year-old has averaged 10.8 points and 7.7 assists per game since taking over the starting point guard position.

Deni Avdija Mon Jan 12 9:00pm

Portland Trail Blazers guard/forward Deni Avdija (back) has been ruled out for Tuesday's matchup against the Golden State Warriors. Avdija sat out the end of Sunday's loss to the New York Knicks due to a back injury, and unfortunately, he will miss more time on Tuesday. Fortunately for Portland, Jrue Holiday returned on Sunday and will help cover for Avdija. Meanwhile, Caleb Love will continue to have a significant role in the rotation.

Jerami Grant Mon Jan 12 9:00pm

Portland Trail Blazers forward Jerami Grant (Achilles) is listed as doubtful for Tuesday's matchup against the Golden State Warriors. The veteran appears to be making progress in his attempt to return from an Achilles problem. Still, the doubtful tag suggests Grant will sit out his 14th consecutive game on Tuesday. Sidy Cissoko is poised to maintain a more prominent role against Golden State, especially with Deni Avdija (back) out of the lineup for this one.

Norman Powell Mon Jan 12 9:00pm

Miami Heat guard/forward Norman Powell (back) is on the injury report with a questionable tag ahead of Tuesday's clash against the Phoenix Suns. He's experiencing soreness in his lower back and may be absent for a second consecutive game. Pelle Larsson filled in for Powell in the first unit on Sunday against the Oklahoma City Thunder, registering 16 points, three rebounds, three assists, one steal, and one block. He will presumably roll with the starters again on Tuesday if Powell doesn't return.

Jose Alvarado Mon Jan 12 8:10pm

New Orleans Pelicans point guard Jose Alvarado (oblique) is set to miss approximately two more weeks, Rod Walker of The Times-Picayune reports. The defensive specialist has already been sidelined for three games with left oblique soreness. Bryce McGowens has held a steady role in the rotation during Alvarado's absence, but he's had a couple of duds after a 20-point effort against the Atlanta Hawks last Wednesday. There are also additional minutes available for Jordan Poole and Jordan Hawksins.

Brandon Williams Mon Jan 12 8:00pm

Dallas Mavericks point guard Brandon Williams (illness) will be unavailable for a second consecutive game on Monday against the Brooklyn Nets. He continues to experience the side effects of an illness, and the team ruled out Williams for Monday's game after initially listing him as doubtful. Williams' absence has allowed Ryan Nembhard to gain some momentum again, and D'Angelo Russell re-entered the rotation on Saturday night against the Bulls. However, Dallas's point guards have a tough matchup on Monday, with Brooklyn allowing the fourth-fewest fantasy points to the position.

Daniel Gafford Mon Jan 12 7:50pm

Dallas Mavericks center Daniel Gafford (ankle) won't be available against the Brooklyn Nets on Monday. He was a late addition to the injury report and will miss at least one game due to a right ankle sprain. Gafford's exit from the lineup leaves the Mavericks' frontcourt down to bare bones. Moussa Cisse (shoulder) and Dwight Powell are the only natural big men left and are set to share the minutes at center on Monday night.

Moussa Cisse Mon Jan 12 7:50pm

Dallas Mavericks center Moussa Cisse (shoulder) will be active on Monday night against the Brooklyn Nets. Earlier in the day, Dallas upgraded Cisse's status from questionable to available, and he is now officially listed as available for the game. Cisse could play a big role against the Nets, as the Mavericks are short of bodies at the center position. He and Dwight Powell will be the only healthy bigs available. The matchup is appealing for the duo, as Brooklyn has given up the 12th-most fantasy points to centers.

PJ Washington Mon Jan 12 7:40pm

Dallas Mavericks forward P.J. Washington (ankle) is expected to return in a week, Noah Weber of The Smoking Cuban reports. Washington will miss a fourth consecutive game on Monday night against the Brooklyn Nets. Monday's update suggests that he will sit out at least three more games. Naji Marshall, Klay Thompson, and Caleb Martin will keep logging extra minutes while Washington remains sidelined. Of the trio, Marshall has delivered the steadiest fantasy production.

Baylor Scheierman Mon Jan 12 7:30pm

Boston Celtics small forward Baylor Scheierman will make his first start of the season in Monday's contest against the Indiana Pacers. Sam Hauser will also be a fresh face in the starting five, with Jaylen Brown (back) unavailable and Hugo Gonzalez dropping to the bench. Last season, Scheierman made two starts, averaging 11.0 points, 6.5 rebounds, 2.5 assists, and 2.0 steals. It's a very small sample size, but the Creighton product can make a significant impact in a starting role.

Paul George Mon Jan 12 7:20pm

Philadelphia 76ers guard/forward Paul George (knee) will play in Monday's matchup against the Toronto Raptors. He was a late scratch on Sunday against Toronto due to knee soreness, but luckily, George will make a quick return to the lineup. The veteran has averaged 15.6 points, 6.0 rebounds, 3.8 assists, 1.2 blocks, and 1.6 steals through his first five outings in 2026. Kelly Oubre Jr., who logged 34 minutes as a starter on Sunday, will drop back to the bench with George's return.

Brandon Ingram Mon Jan 12 7:20pm

Toronto Raptors guard/forward Brandon Ingram (thumb) will rejoin the lineup on Monday against the Philadelphia 76ers. He's back after missing two games with a sprained right thumb. Ingram will start the contest alongside Immanuel Quickley, Jamal Shead, Scottie Barnes, and Collin Murray-Boyles. In two early-season meetings with Philadelphia, Ingram averaged 21.5 points, 4.0 rebounds, and 5.0 assists, shooting an impressive 51.9 percent from the field.

Jaylen Brown Mon Jan 12 7:10pm

Boston Celtics guard/forward Jaylen Brown (back) has been ruled out for Monday's contest against the Indiana Pacers. This looked likely to happen after Brown was handed a doubtful tag on the injury report. The 2024 Finals MVP is bothered by lower back spasms. Brown's absence will put the ball more in the hands of Payton Pritchard and Derrick White. Meanwhile, there will be additional minutes available for Anfernee Simons, Hugo Gonzalez, and Sam Hauser (hamstring), who will return from a one-game absence.

Sam Hauser Mon Jan 12 7:10pm

Boston Celtics forward Sam Hauser (hamstring) will return from a one-game absence on Monday against the Indiana Pacers. He makes a timely return, as Boston will be without Jaylen Brown (back). Hauser could step into Brown's spot in the starting unit. He has been a starter in nine games this season, averaging 9.7 points and 3.2 rebounds. Indiana has limited opponents to 33.8 percent three-point shooting this season, making this a tricky matchup for Hauser.

Joel Embiid Mon Jan 12 7:10pm

Philadelphia 76ers center Joel Embiid (knee) will play on Monday against the Toronto Raptors. He missed Sunday's meeting with Toronto to manage a left knee injury, and the team initially listed Embiid as questionable for Monday's tilt. Embiid has averaged 26.0 points, 8.0 rebounds, 3.6 assists, and 1.0 blocks in 33.0 minutes per game this month. He's looking to dominate against an inexperienced Raptors frontcourt on Monday.

Ziaire Williams Mon Jan 12 6:50pm

Brooklyn Nets guard/forward Ziaire Williams (illness) will miss a second straight game on Monday against the Dallas Mavericks. He is battling an illness and will end up sitting out both games of a back-to-back set. Williams also didn't play in Friday's loss to the Los Angeles Clippers, but that was because of a coach's decision. Bizarrely, Williams dropped out of the rotation after being a starter in the previous contest. He will get three more opportunities this week to rejoin the lineup.
