NBA roundup: Tyrese Maxey, 76ers rally past Wizards in OT

Tyrese Maxey scored 23 of his 39 points in the fourth quarter and overtime as the visiting Philadelphia 76ers remained unbeaten after storming back from a 19-point third-quarter deficit to beat the Washington Wizards 139-134 on Tuesday.
Washington led 126-116 with 2:41 remaining in regulation before the Sixers capped a 17-4 run with 10 straight points to tie the game on Quentin Grimes' 3-pointer with 38.7 seconds left. After the Wizards scored the first five points in overtime, the Sixers answered with six straight points, and Philadelphia put the game away at the foul line in the final seconds.
Joel Embiid scored 25 points in 23 minutes for Philadelphia while Grimes scored 23. Maxey produced nine of the Sixers' 13 points in overtime.
Alex Sarr paced Washington with 31 points and 11 rebounds while Kyshawn George scored 20 points.
Bucks 121, Knicks 111
Giannis Antetokounmpo continued his hot start by scoring 23 of his game-high 37 points in the second half, sparking Milwaukee's comeback from a double-digit deficit to a win over visiting New York.
Antetokounmpo added eight rebounds and seven assists -- including six rebounds and six assists in the second half. He is averaging 36.3 points, 14 rebounds and seven assists per game this season. Ryan Rollins scored a career-high 25 points for the Bucks, who trailed by 14 points in the second quarter.
Jalen Brunson put up 36 points for the Knicks, who have lost two straight after opening the season 2-0. Brunson played the final 6:13 with an apparent right leg injury. Mikal Bridges amassed 24 points and 11 rebounds.
Warriors 98, Clippers 79
Jimmy Butler III put up a game-high 21 points without shooting a free throw and Golden State, holding James Harden scoreless in the second half, blitzed Los Angeles in San Francisco.
On a night when the Clippers were called for just five fouls, the Warriors overcame a 3-for-4 night at the free-throw line by burying 17 of 45 (37.8%) from beyond the arc. Butler hit nine of his 12 shots overall and three of his four 3-point attempts. Stephen Curry chipped in with 19 points.
With Harden scoring all 20 of his points, the Clippers overcame an early 15-point deficit to take a 49-46 halftime lead. But Los Angeles, which had beaten the Warriors seven straight times, added just 30 points over the final 24 minutes.
Thunder 107, Kings 101
Shai Gilgeous-Alexander scored 31 points as Oklahoma City overcame a 10-point deficit and beat visiting Sacramento to improve to 5-0 on the season.
Gilgeous-Alexander had seven points and an assist during the final six minutes to finish 14 of 26 from the floor with nine rebounds. Aaron Wiggins and Mitchell produced 18 points each for the Thunder, who were without Chet Holmgren (back).
Zach LaVine put up 23 points, DeMar DeRozan added 19 and Domantas Sabonis had 10 points and 18 rebounds for the Kings, who have dropped three of their four games.
Heat 144, Hornets 117
Jaime Jaquez Jr. scored a season-high 28 points off the bench to lead Miami past visiting Charlotte for its third win a row.
Bam Adebayo added 26 points and Andrew Wiggins scored 21 for the Heat. Pelle Larsson scored a career-best 17 points after being promoted to the starting five following Norman Powell's late withdrawal due to a groin strain sustained at the morning practice.
LaMelo Ball scored 15 of his 20 points in the first quarter for the Hornets. He finished with nine assists and eight rebounds but shot just 6-for-18 from the floor. Kon Knueppel hit 5 of 11 3-point attempts and put up 19 points.

Charlotte Hornets guard LaMelo Ball (ankle) is doubtful for Sunday's game versus the Utah Jazz. He's carrying the designation because of right ankle impingement. However, he logged 33 minutes in Saturday's loss to the Minnesota Timberwolves, so he's likely taking the game off to rest before returning on Tuesday in New Orleans. Without Ball in the lineup, Collin Sexton and Miles Bridges are the favorites to see more scoring opportunities. Sion James, averaging eight points, four boards, and one steal in one start this season, may move into the starting lineup, giving him some streaming value in deeper fantasy setups.
New Orleans Pelicans center Kevon Looney (knee) is questionable for Sunday's game against the Oklahoma City Thunder. The former Warrior suffered a proximal tibiofibular ligament sprain during the preseason and hasn't played in any of the Pels' five games to begin the year. While there's still a chance he won't be out there on Sunday versus the champs, the questionable tag is at least a step in a positive direction. Looney signed a two-year, $16 million deal with New Orleans in the offseason after spending a decade in Golden State. In 599 regular-season contests, he averaged 5.0 points and 5.7 rebounds. With that said, it's unknown how much action Looney will see if he receives the green light to play. However, even if he's ready for a full workload, Yves Missi, averaging 8.9 points, 6.8 boards, and 1.0 blocks this season, should continue handling the most minutes at the five.
Mavericks' G D'Angelo Russell scored 31 points on 10-of-17 shooting in a 110-122 loss to Detroit on Saturday, Nov. 1. Russell is owned in only 65.4% leagues.
Pacers' F Aaron Nesmith scored 31 points on 10-of-19 shooting in a 114-109 win over the Warriors on Saturday, Nov. 1. Nesmith is owned in only 19.5% leagues.
Toronto Raptors center Jakob Poeltl (back) will sit out a third consecutive game on Sunday versus the Memphis Grizzlies. The Austrian giant is managing a back injury that already caused him trouble during the preseason. Collin Murray-Boyles has taken on an increased role recently, starting in back-to-back games. However, his contribution has been limited, as the rookie has averaged 9.5 points and 2.5 rebounds in those two starts. Sandro Mamukelashvili must also do more until Poeltl is ready to return.
New York Knicks center Mitchell Robinson (ankle) is considered questionable for Sunday's contest against the Chicago Bulls. Robinson made his season debut on Friday night against Chicago, logging 20 minutes as a starter, but he may come out of the lineup again on Sunday. On Friday, Robinson finished his first appearance of the season with four points, 11 rebounds, and two assists. The big man continues to manage a left ankle injury, and it seems likely that Robinson will skip at least one game during the Knicks' upcoming back-to-back set. In Robinson's absence, Ariel Hukporti could make another start, but he isn't somebody fantasy managers should pay attention to.
Utah Jazz center Walker Kessler (shoulder) has been listed as out for Sunday's game against the Charlotte Hornets. The Jazz begin a back-to-back on Sunday, and it looks like the team wants to give Kessler some time off to manage a shoulder injury, which has bothered him since preseason. Kessler's absence will provide an opportunity for Jusuf Nurkic to join the starting lineup. Coming off the bench, Nurkic has posted 7.8 points and 7.6 rebounds per game with the Jazz this season. As a starter, he will certainly be a double-double threat. Kyle Filipowski and Taylor Hendricks could also see more time on the court on Sunday without Kessler.
Phoenix Suns forward Dillon Brooks (groin) will remain out for Sunday's matchup against the San Antonio Spurs, missing a fourth consecutive contest. Since Brooks' exit from the lineup, Royce O'Neale has delivered a series of strong performances in a starting role and should remain on fantasy radars for Sunday night. Ryan Dunn's playing time has also increased, and he'll carry positive momentum into Sunday's matchup after recording his first double-double of the season in Friday's win over the Utah Jazz.
Phoenix Suns guard Jalen Green (hamstring) has been ruled out for a meeting with the San Antonio Spurs on Sunday night. Green reportedly took part in some five-on-five work ahead of Saturday's practice, but he still won't be available for his season debut on Sunday. This means that Grayson Allen will continue to have extra fantasy value. He's been in fine early-season form, averaging 16.3 points, 3.7 rebounds, 5.3 assists, and 1.2 steals in 34.7 minutes per game.
Miami Heat guard/forward Norman Powell (groin) is in danger of missing a third consecutive game, as the team has listed him as questionable for Sunday's tilt against the Los Angeles Lakers. The former Clipper strained his right groin earlier this week and is unlikely to play against the Lakers, having missed Saturday's practice. If Powell remains unavailable, Pelle Larsson is likely to get another start, while Jaime Jaquez Jr. should continue to have a larger role off the bench. Larsson performed well in his first start of the season but struggled last time out against the San Antonio Spurs, providing only five points in 26 minutes.
San Antonio Spurs forward/center Jeremy Sochan (wrist) will not make his season debut in Sunday's clash against the Phoenix Suns. Sochan is continuing to rehab a left wrist sprain. The Spurs frontcourt will also remain without Luke Kornet (ankle) and Kelly Olynyk (heel) on Sunday, meaning Victor Wembanyama must be ready for another busy night at the office. Bismack Biyombo will continue to provide cover at the center position off the bench, while the injuries have increased Keldon Johnson's playing time.
San Antonio Spurs point guard De'Aaron Fox (hamstring) will miss another game on Sunday against the Phoenix Suns. The star guard still hasn't been cleared from a hamstring strain. With Fox sidelined, Julian Champagnie has taken on a starting role at the beginning of the season, but his production has been limited. Across 29.4 minutes per game, Champagnie has averaged 7.2 points, 6.4 rebounds, and 2.0 assists. Rookie Dylan Harper has also benefited from Fox's absence, emerging as San Antonio's leading scorer off the bench with 14.4 points in 25.8 minutes per game. In addition, Harper has averaged close to five rebounds and assists.
Dallas Mavericks center Daniel Gafford (ankle) will return to the lineup with a minutes restriction on Saturday against the Detroit Pistons, Mike Curtis of The Dallas Morning News reports. Mavericks head coach Jason Kidd told reporters during his pre-game press conference that Gafford will be limited to 15-18 minutes during his season debut. The big man has missed the first few games of the season due to an ankle sprain. In an ideal world, Kidd would probably prefer to use Gafford more since the Mavericks will be without Anthony Davis (calf) and Dereck Lively II (knee) on Saturday night. Gafford is expected to share center minutes with Dwight Powell.
Los Angeles Lakers center Deandre Ayton (back) is considered probable for Sunday's meeting with the Miami Heat. In Friday's NBA Cup matchup against the Memphis Grizzlies, Ayton battled back spasms and was limited to 17 minutes of action. It looks like he still hasn't fully overcome the issue, but the probable tag suggests that Ayton is expected to play against Miami. Ayton has enjoyed a decent start in Los Angeles, averaging 14.8 points and 7.8 rebounds with 62.7 percent shooting. However, his offensive role could suffer with Luka Doncic's return, while the Lakers also expect to have LeBron James (sciatica) back in the lineup around mid-November.
Dallas Mavericks guard D'Angelo Russell (knee) has shaken off a questionable tag and will play in Saturday's special matchup against the Detroit Pistons in Mexico City. Russell hurt his left knee on Wednesday night against the Indiana Pacers, but he will remain in the lineup for Saturday's action. In Dallas, Russell has filled a bench role, averaging 10.8 points and 5.4 assists in 20.6 minutes. Detroit allows the third-fewest bench points in the league, so this could be a challenging game for the veteran guard.
Philadelphia 76ers forward Paul George (knee) will have his season debut pushed back further, as the team has ruled him out for Sunday's matchup against the Brooklyn Nets. George has been practicing but hasn't been quite ready to return to action after undergoing offseason knee surgery. Philadelphia also won't have Joel Embiid (knee) in the lineup on Sunday, meaning the offense will revolve around Tyrese Maxey and VJ Edgecombe. Jabari Walker could get another start with George out, but he has posted only 4.0 points and 3.2 rebounds per game this season.

The former MVP has seen limited action this season, and he will take the night off to rest ahead of an upcoming back-to-back set. It's safe to assume that we'll see Embiid only once during the next three contests. So far this season, he has featured in four of Philadelphia's five games, averaging 17.3 points, 5.3 rebounds, 3.5 assists, and 1.0 steals in 22.3 minutes. With Embiid out, Adem Bona and Andre Drummond can pick up additional work, but neither player has been particularly productive in 2025-26.
Cleveland Cavaliers center Jarrett Allen (finger) is listed as questionable for Sunday's contest against the Atlanta Hawks. On Friday, it was revealed that Allen was dealing with a non-displaced fracture of his left ring finger, and the injury may keep him sidelined for a second consecutive game. Dean Wade started in place of Allen on Friday night against the Toronto Raptors, but his 1-for-7 effort from the field ruined his performance. Wade had five points, four rebounds, four assists, and three steals in the contest. He's never been much of an offensive contributor, so fantasy managers shouldn't expect Wade to improve on Sunday if he maintains a larger role in the rotation.
Cleveland Cavaliers guard/forward Sam Merrill (hip) remains questionable on the injury report ahead of Sunday's encounter with the Atlanta Hawks. Merrill is battling to overcome a hip contusion, which has already sidelined him for two games. Due to Cleveland's injury situation, Merrill has had a significant role on the team this season, averaging 17.3 points per game. In his absence, Jaylon Tyson has produced a pair of solid performances as a member of the first unit. He will continue to have increased fantasy value if Merrill can't make a return on Sunday.
Cleveland Cavaliers point guard Darius Garland (toe) will miss Sunday's matchup against the Atlanta Hawks. On Friday, Cavaliers head coach Kenny Atkinson said that Garland was close to making his season debut, but he will miss at least one more game due to offseason toe surgery. Donovan Mitchell (hamstring) may also miss another game on Sunday, which places additional responsibility on Lonzo Ball and Craig Porter Jr. in the Cavaliers backcourt.
